What elements do the failed states have in common?

Poor leadership was a very common element in the failed states. The turmoil and troubles had mostly come from a leader that had fallen or a government system that had been overruled by the people. It goes to show you just how important a government and a fair leadership is to a group of people no matter how big or small.

Is it acceptable that people live in these conditions in 2012?

I do not think it is acceptable. Cost wise, there shouldn’t be starvation, hunger, or homelessness. There are many other factors that contribute to the poverty that many countries face: government, taxes, drugs and more. No matter how many people believe in helping people, there are always going to be evil people in the world. I think a good leader would want to help their people but this is not the case for most countries.
